The major support for this site was initiated from a USDA Higher Education Challenge Grant Number 97-38411-4284. Electronic Technologies to Enhance Learning in Entomology. T. P. Mack, R. D. Fell, F. W. Ravlin, N. D. Stone, D. E Mullins and R Kriz. Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

The Cyber Cockroach web site is being developed by faculty in the Department of Entomology at Virginia Tech to provide a visual examination the internal and external anatomy, of the American Cockroach. Video clips of selected cockroach activities and behaviors will be included. Plans are to continually update the site with new information on cockroach images as it becomes available

A major intended use is to provide an instructional aid for students studying the biology of insects... entomology. Cockroaches represent a more or less primitive insect and is quite often used as a representative model for studies on insect anatomy. Two versions of the Cyber Cockroach may eventually be offered pending funding opportunities. Currently we are providing a more advanced version, but hope to develop an abridged version for less advanced students. We are also seeking funding to support development of a series on the exploration of the internal anatomy of this insect.
